"Junk" Food

Decided not to cook tonight

Really couldn’t be stuffed
Washing, peeling, chopping?
I’ve done all those enough!

So I sat upon the couch
And ordered food online
Didn’t have to move an inch
That suited me just fine!

The delivery soon arrived
We hungry folk were glad
But soon disappointed…
The food was just so bad.

Covered in lashings of salt
Luke-warm and very greasy
Sure, it was convenient
But it made us all feel queasy 🤢

We knew we had to eat it
We had no choice, you see
Never mind, we washed it down
With a pint of beer (or three)!🍺

My Caffeine Habit

My head, it was a thumpin’
My tummy, it felt queasy
Trying to get through the day
Really wasn’t easy.

Popped a few pain-killers
Drank water by the pail
But still I felt quite rotten
It was all to no avail.

I know what you’re thinking..
Hung over, I was not!!!
(I may have drunk a little
But, really, not a lot).

Made myself a coffee
Soon, the headache stopped
I felt sooo much better
Aha! The penny dropped.

I have latte’s all the time
(I have my own machine)
Now I’ve had too many…
I’m dependent on caffeine!

I must cut back on coffee
It’s no good for my head
I know just the answer –
I’ll stick to wine instead!

Daylight Savings, I Miss You!

Honestly, I was really  sad
Left quite broken hearted
Why? Daylight Savings ended
Just as my holiday started…

On the “wish list” for my break
Was to sleep in every morn
Instead, I’m wide awake by six
And spend all day with a yawn! 😴

Let’s not forget the evening
Again, it’s not that great…
When it’s only half past four
It feels like half past eight!

There is one consolation…
One less reason to be surly
We can start “after dark drinks”
With gusto, an hour early! 🍺

A Valentine’s Day Poem

Love hearts are all around
Valentine’s Day is drawing near
Hubby and I don’t make a fuss
We’ve been together many years.
Back when our romance was young
(And, let’s face it, so were we)
We embraced Valentine’s Day
Made a bit of an effort, you see.
I remember those exciting times
When we were truly smitten 💕
Valentine’s cards were purchased
And romantic words, written.

Cute toys were exchanged
And flowers were a winner
We’d often pop a cork (or two!)
Along with a nice dinner.

Ads in the newspaper
Were carefully arranged
But, after we were married,
Well… Valentine’s Day changed.

I asked for no more flowers
Notices, or stuffed bunnies
Valentine’s Day became low-key
In order to save money.
Now we just exchange small gifts
To show that we each care
They’re often sweet and edible
…Chocolates (not underwear!)

Boxing Day and Chill?

It’s Boxing Day in Melbourne
I awoke still full, and tired
I really should relax, and chill
But instead I’m feeling wired.
Half the house is at the cricket
The other half, still asleep
I think about what chores to do
Busy, I like to keep.
I could spend the day at home
No need for the grocery store
We’ve surely enough leftovers
To last a week, or more.
Shopping centres I’ll avoid
All those Boxing Day promotions…
They can keep their discounts
All the crowds, and the commotion.  🙅
The house already had a clean
Everything’s been put away
Perhaps I shouldput up my feet
And enjoy this sunny day.
A comfy chair outside sounds nice
And a nap would suit me fine
But, if I’m still not relaxed…
There’s always the leftover wine  🍾

Changing Tastes Part 1: Booze

My body has changed as I’ve aged
But that’s OK – I’m not enraged
Something that I never knew
Was that my tastebuds would change too.
I browse around the liquor store
And see wine, beer, spirits, and more
All those drinks, so artfully arranged
But, oh, how my tastes have changed!
I once thought wine sweet and fruity
Was a thing of endless beauty
But now I’d rather end my day
With a nice cab sav🍷 or chardonnay.
I decline spirits, mixed and pure
I’d much prefer a smooth liqueur
I’ve cut back on beer, coz I can tell
All that gas makes my tummy swell…
With all those changes, you may think
There’s not much left for me to drink
Baileys? Kahlua? Make mine a double!
And I never say “no” to some (dry) bubbles 🍾
